Fish may not be as hungry, and therefore not as ambitious to take your bait...

Winter fishing is all about being able to bare the cold weather. Dress warm; because people have different tolerance for the winter climate, this statement will mean different things for different people. Best bet is to wear more layers than you think you need for the winter fishing experience. Remember, you can always take layers off if things get too warm and uncomfortable for you. Most fisherman who have gone fishing during winter will tell you that, for the most part, what you wear won't really affect your fishing game. The only piece of winter wear that may hinder your fishing abilities will be the gloves you wear, so wear flexible gloves and rely on hand warmers to fight off the winter's cold.
It is said that winter fishing can be a bit more difficult, in terms of catching, than fishing during the other seasons. Fish may not be as hungry, and therefore not as ambitious to take your bait, during the winter months because they have been filling themselves on all the whitebait and small bait fish. During winter, the fish may be more interested in snack food as oppose to an entire meal. Although it may be against the popular belief that winter fishing should be done with large pieces of bait as fish will only go after bait worth the effort. Try using a small piece of bait to resemble a very small bait fish or whitebait and use smaller hooks. You can also try using shorter traces to give the baited hook a quicker movement in the water and add a 5cm length of lumo tubing and lumo beads to the trace.
I will leave you with this, bring a friend to share the winter fishing experience as well as a thermostat full of hot chocolate (or tea or coffee or whatever you prefer to warm up your insides). And, have fun as winter fishing has it's own set of beautiful scenery and serenity.
