Wearing camouflage patterns while hunting may give you that edge you need. Here's a few tips to help you achieve this.
- Before choosing a camouflage pattern for hunting, consider what the woods and marshes will look like at the time of year you'll be hunting and base your decision on that.
- By wearing a camouflage pattern with less solid blends you will seem less human therefore lessening the chances that the game will recognize your shape as threatening.
- Wearing a camouflage pattern that has colors dominant to the territory you are hunting.
- Match camouflage pattern to the background and consider wearing a different camouflage pattern on top and bottom.
- Purchase pants two to three inches longer than needed. This will keep light colored socks and boots from standing out when hunting.
- Cover anything shiny. Things like watch, buttons, snaps and zippers. These small details sometimes demand great attention.
- Wearing boots with dark soles would help as they are sometimes the first thing the game will see when ground hunting.

- Keep your outline as low as possible. Avoid the game's eye level. Scrunch down while on the ground, and get 15 feet or higher when using a treestand.
- Use face paint to touch up around your eyes, even if you are wearing a face net. It keeps down the shine.
- Sunlight reflection off the lenses of glasses will often spook game. To prevent this, try wearing a full billed hat pulled down low over the eyes.
- Bright colored fletchings are an advantage when bow hunting because they can be seen as they travel down range. But to avoid a quiver full of bright colors try fletching only the arrow you will shoot first and the rest in a dull natural color
- For total concealment be sure to use a camouflage pattern on your gun, bow and other hunting equipment. While most can be purchased already covered in patterns, camouflage tape also works well.
- When washing camouflage clothes, try turning them inside out, use cold water and a scent free detergent. This, along with allowing them to air dry outside will keep your camouflage free from scent and fading for your next hunting trip.
